Master Class - Digital Pastels

This tutorial is designed for the serious digital artist who wants to obtain the true look and feel of fine Pastel Paintings starting from photographs. This is not merely re-painting or tracing and re-drawing, nor simply applying a Photoshop filter. The techniques shown here go into un-documented features that are available nowhere else.

Each of the modules contained on this Data DVD is done in narrated movie format so that you learn by seeing and doing. It is exactly as if you were standing over my shoulder watching, and hearing me explain what I am doing.

This is not meant to replace but augment my initial Digital Artistry tutorial series. Instead it focuses in more detail on obtaining a specific medium look and different styles of that medium.

Contents
  • Understanding the Qualitative differences between photographs and Paintings
Examining the qualities of genuine Pastel Fine art works to be able to reproduce them digitally.

  • In depth discussion of the effect-brush combination in Digital Image Pro including which effect and custom brush combination produce the best pastel looks and detail in depth demonstration on how to create your own custom effects brushes.

  • What Pastel Brush settings in Corel Painter are really important and how to get the best results with them.

  • How to create scrumbling effects and two or more tones chalk in Corel Painter.

  • How to create more realistic paper show thru effects to enhance the pastel look

  • Step by step narrated demos that take you through each step of the processes used to create different pastel looks from an initial photograph.

    Plus much more:
Each of the Custom "Brush templates" in Digital Image Pro used in these demos are also included.

Demo 1 - Sun Flower House
In this demo I'll take you the steps to change the photo on the left into the digital pastel rendering on the right. I'll discuss how to select the best images for "transforming" and which effects and brushes to use to achieve initial different looks to parts of the image to begin. Then I'll show you how to combine and enhance them to achieve a perfect looking pastel look.
Demo 2 - Italian Landscape
In the next demo I'll go deeper into pastel effects and show you how to achieve a soft pastel outline look and more realistic paper "show thru" effects than simply applying a paper texture in Corel Painter.
Demo 3- Abstract Portrait

In this demo I'll show you how to create an  abstract looking pastel portrait from the photograph on the left.
Demo 4 - Realistic Pastel Portrait

In this demo I'll show how to create a realistic pastel portrait from the photograph on the left which captures all the subtle nuances of a true pastel portrait.
